Library of Things

Why buy when you can borrow?

Library of Things

The Library of Things is a collection of items for loan that expands the boundaries of traditionally defined library materials. An evolution of the library’s existing lending model, this collection supplements the library's approach to meeting the needs of our community.

The collection consists of items you may only need to use a couple of times, saving you money when you need something for a quick job or activity.

Items are checked out like other items -- two weeks, and two renewals if no one is on the waiting list -- but we do ask that no more than two Things be checked out at a time. We also ask that only one kit with similar parts (ex. K'nex or Snap Circuits) be checked out at a time.

WPL has received grants and donations of items from the public to provide our collection. We want to expand our offerings, and you can help with things you already have. Please contact the library at 903-364-2955 prior to donating. Items must be in good working condition, with all required parts, and be easily reusable. Please do not drop off items without checking first. If we cannot use an item, it may be sold at our annual sale or otherwise disposed.

We also have an Amazon wish list if you’d like to see the full list of items we’re considering, and suggestions are also appreciated. You can purchase items wherever you like, or we also accept monetary donations to buy Things.

All items are free to check out with a library card, which is also free to Texas residents.
