Catalog FAQ

What is Reserve Express?

Reserve Express allows you to indicate your favorite authors. When a new title by that author arrives, the patron is automatically put on the reserve list for that title.

To access Reserve Express, you must be logged in to your account and look for the "Have some favorite authors?" link. Clicking that will take you to the list of authors currently on the Reserve Express List.

How do I place an author on my Reserve Express list when they're not listed as an option?

Library staff has to activate each author name for it to appear on the Reserve Express list. Just call, email or come by the library and staff will activate the author(s) you're interested in. In addition, we have to already own at least one item by that author for them to be available on the list.

Can I reserve a book that's not yet been released?

You can reserve books by an author in advance by using the Reserve Express system. If you're only wanting a specific title, reserves can only be placed if they're in the catalog. However, in some cases a title may be in system prior to the release date and you can place a reserve, but it will not be available until the official release date.

Why does an item I have on reserve say it's not ready?

There can be several reasons. One is the item is it isn't physically in the library yet (see previous answer). Another is we haven't quite finished processing it (putting our labels, etc. on) so it's not ready for checkout.

Another common reason is reserves are placed on items which are on the shelves. Until staff has time to retrieve them and scan them in the system for you to be notified by phone, text or email, they'll still be listed as "not ready." Reserves are pulled from the shelves shortly before the library opens at 10 a.m. Any reserves placed after that time will be processed on the next business day.

How can I tell what's new in the library?

On the search screen, look for the "What's Hot" section in the lower right hand corner. The default will show the "Most Popular" titles, but simply click on the "What's New" tab. You have options to narrow down to items added in the last week, two weeks, month or two months, as well as the material type (book, DVD, etc.).

How do I find award winning books?

On the search screen, look for the "What's Hot" section in the lower right hand corner. The default will show the "Most Popular" titles, but simply click on the "Booklists" tab. Click on the booklist you're interested in. This does not include all titles that have received an award, just the ones WPL owns.
